General Report | ||
As Red 2 flying wingman to Flt. Lt. Merfort took off from home airfield. Mission was to dive bomb the enemy defences at Geldern. Our route out was a northern arc so that we approached the target from the north. We stayed over 12000 ft for a lot of the way but took up a gentle dive on approach to the target which appeared off the starboard side. I followed Red 1 in a 45 deg. dive straight onto the target, released my 1000 lbs of ordnance cleanly onto the target area with a high probability of serious damage caused. Egressed out of target area at very low altitude with Red 1 above me. Red 1 called out that I had an enemy a/c behind and I broke to port. Enemy a/c was seen to move away. We started to climb out of the area, an enemy a/c was again called as being behind. My a/c was hit from behind and I baled. |
