General Report

I was tasked with leading our unit, under the callsign Voodoo, to patrol and intercept any enemies in the vicinity of the city of Caen. Some pilots experienced engine issues during the climb out and were forced to RTB while F/O 'Zach' Z. Lamothe and I pushed forward. Upon arriving at the target area, an enemy 190 was spotted about 8 miles NE of our position. We approached the target from the clouds and then I commanded F/O 'Zach' Z. Lamothe to attack. Bandit was severely damaged after his first pass and leaking fluids heavily. Despite the damage, the enemy still attempted to offer some fight to F/O 'Zach' Z. Lamothe but eventually lost control of his aircraft and crashed into the waters of the channel. After some additional patrol and nothing else in sight, we began egressing from the area and when we were about 10 miles of the coast, flak batteries from our lines began firing behind us. Initially I thought they had mistaken us for the enemy but upon checking my six low I see a Me-109 slowly gaining on us. I ordered my wingman to break and climb, hoping the bandit would go for me but instead he decided to commit to F/O 'Zach' Z. Lamothe's plane. The German began a hard climb after F/O 'Zach' Z. Lamothe which gave me the perfect shot opportunity when he was almost at its stall speed. With a quick concentrated burst to his underbelly, his plane blew up into million pieces. During the fight, a Typhoon squadron approached us and one of them decided to shoot at me at close range. The shots connected to the tip of my right wing, creating large holes to it, but I still manage to control my craft and land.
