Lead by F/Lt RICHARDS we conducted offensive sweep between Monschau and Dupemfeld. Upon approaching Monschau area F/Lt RICHARDS advised he had spotted a group of bandits conducting ground attack against our troops. Followed F/Lt RICHARDS into engagement with the bandits, where he was unable to take a clear shot on the first pass. As we regained altitude F/Lt RICHARDS spotted a Fw-190 on my six, as instructed I maintained a shallow climb to allow F/Lt RICHARDS to gain position on the bandit's six o'clock and cause terminal damage to the Fw-190.
Regrouped to the south as instructed, where thanks to the alertness of F/Lt RICHARDS, he successfully dispatched a Me-109 that had gained position on my six during the maneuver.
On regrouping to the South F/Lt RICHARDS advised we had been notified by ground control of enemy contacts about 5 km from our position. Once contact was made I engaged as instructed, but was unable to gain guns on pass. F/Lt RICHARDS noted I had bled too much speed and altitude and I immediately egressed to the west to regain, losing contact with F/Lt RICHARDS I reduced speed and maintained heading. F/Lt RICHARDS dispatched another Me-109, once we had regrouped F/Lt RICHARDS instructed us to RTB. P/O 'Bemmo' Bayles |
