Unit operated under the codename of Voodoo as a 2 ship flight led by me with F/O 'Zach' Z. Lamothe as my wingman. Our flight was tasked with patrolling the air space between Aachen and Mounschau as some enemy activity had been reported earlier this morning. Upon approaching the area, the unit was attacked by a group of 109s at high altitude. F/O 'Zach' Z. Lamothe chased the bandit after he attempted a headon attack with me covering his six. After about a 5 min chase, F/O 'Zach' Z. Lamothe got entangled in a slow scissor fight contest and overshot the bandit. The bandit then attempted to point his gus at him but fortunately I was near to make Jerry regret the attack. The other 109s scattered and dove away to the deck and we could not find them despite extending our patrol to the area around Monschau. After about 30 min we began egressing towards Aachen airfield and once again identified some bandits in the area. F/O 'Zach' Z. Lamothe was directed to attack a low 109 that had been damaged by ground fire and quickly dispatched the German. Immediately after regrouping we spotted another 109 heading towards their lines. F/O 'Zach' Z. Lamothe was able to catch the bandit which appeared to be a rookie and did not really know what to do once F/O 'Zach' Z. Lamothe got within gun's range.
The flight RTBed afterwards and all pilots landed safely with 3 confirmed kills. F/Lt 'Riksen' Richards |
