General Report

S/Ldr 'Skipper' Merfort From Gilze airfield, with F/Lt. Barns leading from 92 Squadron accompanied by myself as his number two and S/Ldr 'Skipper' Merfort as number three, conducted an offensive sweep into hun territory. Jerry was very active today over Antwerp which allured us to come greet them. A warm welcome we gave them having shot down collectively two hun over the city. My kill of those two was a 109 that passed below us but hadn't seen us remarkably; I bounced him from above and sent him in. The sortie continued north of Antwerp where we encountered several bandits which we engaged and damaged. F/Lt Barns downed one of them as did S/Ldr 'Skipper' Merfort - S/Ldr 'Skipper' Merfort had chased his prey and was quite close when I came by and gave his jerry a quick burst on a delfection angle in which I scored several hits. S/Ldr 'Skipper' Merfort being on his tail shot up the hun and got his kill. F/Lt Barns was pancake ammo after this engagement so we had to RTB. No further action was taken by our flight, however, it should be noted that combat over the the bombline was observed to be intense and frequent with many large formations of hun getting tangled with other allied air groups in the area.
