Unit operated under callsign KUDOS and was tasked in protecting the Armored vehicles retreating from the city of Eupen. Unit was engaged by a large formation of Me-109s in the vicinity and was forced to retreat to Y-46 (Aachen) after F/O 'Zach' Z. Lamothe was damaged by one of the enemies. Upon landing we discovered that we had been followed and the AF defenses were unable to destroy the Nazi planes before they could get to F/O 'Zach' Z. Lamothe as he was exiting his plane. I quick unstrapped my harness to rescue my friend but unfortunately he was already dead. | ||
