F/O 'Zach' Z. Lamothe Flying as callsign, 'red 2' with F/O 'Zach' Z. Lamothe as 'red 3' and F/Lt 'Riksen' Richards leading as 'red 1' conducting a sweep over allied forces approaching Venlo. We were quick to spot a flight of 3 109's that F/O 'Zach' Z. Lamothe and I intercepted with F/Lt 'Riksen' Richards remaining as top cover. We attempted to intercept from their low six but we were spotted and a fight ensued. I turned for one but quickly found a 109 on my six. I broke off before the hun could get a bead on me. As I turned, I witnessed F/O 'Zach' Z. Lamothe give a good stream of fire into a 109 putting him into a flat spin; F/Lt 'Riksen' Richards came in to finish jerry off with a short squirt. In the 3 seconds that it took for all this to happen, the third 109 engaged me which a remedied with a quick break but the hun still managed to get a burst off, damaging my rudder severely. The 109 scissored with me twice but was destroyed by F/Lt 'Riksen' Richards. Having extensive damage to my craft, I had to RTB. F/Lt 'Riksen' Richards and F/O 'Zach' Z. Lamothe both remained higher, diligently escorting my damaged bird back to our home field. We all RTBed successfully. F/O 'Mac' Steele |
