General Report | ||
Took off from Asch with Red Section and led to Kelz airfield. Blue Section was on the flak suppression job but the OC had to turn back with engine trouble. P/O Steele went on alone and was shot down I believe. We arrived over Kelz and were attacked by a number of JP 262s so I hurried the run in onto the target and did not manage to get the section properly aligned. I got my bombs close to the right hand group of E/A but only caused damage, I did not see any enemy a/c destroyed. On the climb out towards Zulpich we were attacked by the JPs again one of which I managed to get close to and fired 4 or 5 short bursts until I saw my rounds hitting the port engine and a/c stalled and dived to the ground. My first 262 destroyed and at a range of around 500 yards. We reformed quickly and recovered back to Asch without incident. On landing I damaged my starboard wing due to ground looping. |
