General Report

From Y-45, in a 7 ship fligh, callsign, "Bumper", led by S/Ldr Merfort as Red 1, myself leading Yellow flight and P/Off Mothe 'Zach', as my wingman (Yellow 2), patrolled the bombline between Cologne and Bonn. While patrolling near Bonn, we noticed a jerry transport taking off. Yellow flight enaged and my burst put him to the ground. Shhortly after our attack, while Bumper was covering, the hun pressed to attack while they were unaware. Yellow 2 and I quickly got to altitude and went in to defend our fellow squadron mates. I shot up a 109 that was desperately trying to get a shot at Lamothe, in which his craft began to set ablaze and set course to the ground. South East of the Bonn airfield, White flight was engaged in fierce combat and was quickly becoming outnumbered. In an effort to even the odd's, I pushed my bird harder than ever before but alas, seconds before I could get a shot in, a 109 tore into whom I believe was F/O Closterman, and sent him in. I made sure to avenge him and sent that 109 to the ground with Red 2, F/Lt 'Madov' Emblin as witness. After making a dash to friendly lines, over Bonn, we noticed Skipper being engaged by 190's who shortly after we saw him had shot him down. Low on ammo and greatly outnumbered, I led Yellow flight with Madov accompanying to our rally point. On our way, we saw our first 262 which I saw ominously in my mirror. Fortunately for me, Zach pumped a few rounds into him, sending him home. While making haste, we lost Madov who was shot down but bailed out over friendly lines. Shortly thereafter, we egressed for home. Upon landing, I informed our intelligence officer of enemy positions surrounding Bonn airfield that ground forces may have a difficult time with. I made sure to add the position of where Madov landed, whom was later picked up by passing Yanks.
