General Report

Off from Aachen Y-45 again on a patrol on the Cologne-Bonn line. Flying in the new Fluid Six style. Headed east over the front line at about 13,000 ft and patrolled around the city of Cologne and then we approached Bonn. There was air activity at Bonn airfield and Yellow section was ordered down to investigate. I believe that Yellow section caught an enemy transport a/c and either damaged or destroyed it.We reformed over the city of Bonn and then our formation was involved in a number of dogfights. I became separated from Red One and Red Three but I did witness Red Three's a/c in several pieces falling to the ground. His port mainplane had been severed from the fuselage and I did not observe the pilot under canopy. A few minutes later I rejoined with Yellow section and we patrolled back towards the front lines. Here I was bounced and I believe the tailplane was severed from my a/c from the way that it simply fell nose-down in a vertical dive. I was unconscious for a few seconds and then managed to find enough strength to open the canopy and bail out. I landed very comfortably and as I was on our side of the front line I sat down and enjoyed my sandwiches which I always take with me inside my flying jacket. Can't beat ham & pickle.
