Our unit was tasked with an Armed Recce over Dinkel Rail Bridge where multiple enemy aircraft had been previously reported to be operating. During ingress route, just before reaching CP Alpha, the unit spotted multiple contacts low in the vicinity of Almelo. We engaged the bandits and F/O 'Zach' Z. Lamothe swiftly dispatched 01 Me-109 but we were then surrounded by multiple enemies, including jet fighters. Fortunately, other Allied aircraft were nearby to provide assistance which forced the enemies to disengage. We then gained some additional angels and headed back to target area. Upon arriving, we engaged a large formation of 109s and F/O 'Zach' Z. Lamothe destroyed one that was trying to get on my six. I later returned the favor and put a quick close range burst to another. Before leaving the area, F/O 'Zach' Z. Lamothe caught another on my six and I managed to damage another. We then egressed to the airfield of Kirchhellen but before we could make it, F/O 'Zach' Z. Lamothe suffered engine problems and was forced to crash-land about 5 miles from the AF.
